The Pen – Issue 12

Celebrations for the end of term were huge this weekend.  We started with the interclub comp and finished up with another awesome seminar by Peter.  The kids had many successes putting together the pressure the game has been working on over the last month.  Transition from position to position with control improved.  The knowledge of the rules and use of points was great to see.  Each winner on the day provides 4 points, silver medallist 2 points and bronze medallist 1 point for their academy.  The points from each school will be tallied up at the end of the year and the winner will receive the 2019 De Been Jiu Jitsu Darwin Cup.  Keep an eye out on social media to see how the points finished up after Saturdays comp.

The Junior Elite Team (JET) 2019 has been selected.  Congratulations to Cheyenne, Connor, Mikey, Paige, Sam and Tadgh.  The team has met with the head coach and are now busy developing their games for 2019.  They have also stepped up their Jiu Jitsu training with some extra strength and conditioning programs to come.  The program will provide opportunities to compete nationally, train at the HQ training camp and try out for the National JET program.  The National program gives athletes opportunities to represent De Been 100% Jiu Jitsu National team at the best International events.

Our Academy status provides us the opportunity to learn from the best.  The Saturdays seminar was no different.  The group was introduced to some new techniques that blew our minds.  The techniques were so effective that some members were already using them successfully at Sundays open mat.  Thanks Pete!!  Another awesome seminar.

Jitz Kids (Junior Kids 1) has an awesome buzz at the moment as their new coach Maria has gotten to know the group.  Their performance at Saturdays comp shows that the fun in class is translating to great skill development.  Keep up the great work Maria.  Classes for both Jitz Kids and Junior starts back after the school break on 23 April 2019.

The beginners program continues to provide opportunities for members to build their basic skils before entering the regular program.  Well done to the more than a dozen beginners that have graduated this year!

Happy Easter team.
