Celebrations for the end of term were huge this weekend. We started with the interclub comp and finished up with another awesome seminar by Peter. The kids had many successes putting together the pressure the game has been working on over the last month. Transition from position to position with control improved. The knowledge of the rules and use of points was great to see. Each winner on the day provides 4 points, silver medallist 2 points and bronze medallist 1 point for their academy. The points from each school will be tallied up at the end of the year and the winner will receive the 2019 De Been Jiu Jitsu Darwin Cup. Keep an eye out on social media to see how the points finished up after Saturdays comp.

Like the rest of this year, December has been huge. Our awards for both kids and adults highlighted all the hard work our team has done in the last 12 months and it was great to see a lot of new faces receive awards. Big Congrats to our best & fairest for 2018, to be recognised by all academy members is something special. Thanks to all that attended and voted.

The recent Peter De Been visit highlighted the value of the academy system, with members getting a couple of hours of refining their techniques with one of Australia’s best. The teams side control defence improved out of sight this week!!! The informative evening was topped off by Chris being awarded his black belt! For the academy to receive its 2nd black belt from Pete in our 10th year was fantastic. For those who missed Chris stated ‘thanks to all my team mates, these moments can’t happen without your support.’

Finished off October with a Bang! A team of 5 travelled down for the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships. Big congrats to Ally and Sanford for competing in their first huge Jiu Jitsu championship. You both did a fantastic job against very hard seasoned campaigners, well done. Sam had a awesome Sunday dominating her weight class to win gold. Be sure to congratulate her next time you see her for the best performance of the weekend by far. Our two brown belt representatives had a couple of hard days but led the team by digging deep. As always the club did exceptionally well winning 2 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronzes. For all those wishing to compete in 2019 keep an eye out on this newsletter for the release of some dates in Asia and Australia leading up to next years Pan Pacs.

Pan Pacs are around the corner. All who will be attending this weekend had their final week of hard training in preparation. Big thank you to all club members for pushing them hard in the last couple of months. The fantastic results our team get at every event is not only due to the competitors but to their hard working team mates that push them through every session. GO TEAM!!!
